Textual analysis- Mali

I am analysing the music video of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’. The genre of the song is pop and the video was directed by Jake Nava.

The genre characteristics of a pop song include a dance routine, song performance and the main ‘good-looking’ singer wearing revealing clothing. In this video you can see Beyonce wearing short dresses so that the male audience want her and the female audience want to be her.  The dance routine is easy to follow.

The relationship between the lyrics and the video show that there are strong references to each other. This is because when she sings ‘you’re so crazy in love’ she used arm movements that point towards the camera seeming that the audience is the person that she is singing about.

The video is from the first song that Beyonce released after she split from her band, Destiny’s Child.  The song show that not only is she a song vocal singer, she is also ‘sexy’ and can dance well.  Throughout the video she changes clothing several times, each outfit more revealing than the last, keeping the audience wanting to see more. At the beginning of the video she can be seen rolling around which promotes voarisum.

Storyboard

Here is our story board that shows the order of events of things that will happen in our music video, which we all contributed to. We will also include bandshots inbetween some of these shots, however we haven't yet decided where our band shots will be fitted in.

This was the letter we sent to Paolo Nutini via Myspace asking for permission to use his song.

Our New Song and Artist

Due to no reply from the artist of our first choice of song, we have chosen on the different song of 'Pencil Full of Lead' by 'Paolo Nutini'.

Paolo Nutini is a singer songwriter that originates from Scotland who released his debut album in 2006 and was named 'These Streets'.  The album which the song we want to use comes off though is his second album named 'Sunny Side Up' which was released in summer 2009 and made it to number 1 in the UK top 40.

His debut album was noted for having a much more 'Poppy' sound to it whereas the album 'Sunny Side Up' went more experimental and brought in influences from Jazz, Funk and Indie.

The single 'Pencil Full of Lead' was released on November 2nd and peaked in the UK charts at #17.  I think that the most suitable music genre which this song falls into is a hybrid of Indie and Jazz Funk.

We have decided to use this song because we feel we have a wide range of ideas that we could use for our music video.
